Volunteer NEPAL

Jewish Aid Australia and AUJS sent 7 young adults to Nepal for a month of volunteer work and development education in Dec 09/Jan 2010. Below is an update from their madricha Keren Tuch:

Hi all,

I am writing this from a small internet place in Dhading Bessi - a 1.5 hour ride from our village.

Everything is going well in the village and everyone is currently healthy.

We have been there for a week and a half and have been teaching in the school, started teacher training for the teachers 2 days ago, continuing with child club after school and running womans and young womans group. We have also built a swing set in the garden, and currently making a cricket set from wood to teach the kids in sport class, and going to make toys for the kindi class.

We are getting used to the village lifestyle which invovles appreciating the beautiful nature (we have a great view of the Himalayas), rugging up at night time, learning to dance Nepali style (and tasting the local brewed alcohol), enjoying looking up at the stars at night, and eating lots of daal baht (rice and lentils).

We will be back in Kathmandu in a week and look forward to the hot showers, washing hair and clothes and eating something that isn't daal bhat!!

Cheers,

Keren
