Jewish Aid Australia's involvement with the provision of emergency relief is as trustee of the Australian Jewish Humanitarian Relief Trust (AJHRT). AJHRT provides a tax deductible donation process for the collection of funds to then disburse to other non-government organisations who are providing direct assistance to those in need. Over the years Jewish Aid has worked with Care Australia. Jewish Aid works on your behalf with these organisations to identify a specific project within the disaster area - typically focused on women and children - so that we are able to monitor the progress and effectiveness of our assistance.

Our first appeal, in 1994, was the survivors of the Rwandan atrocities. Since then we have supported victims of flood, cyclone, tsunami and earthquake across countries such as Turkey, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea as well as refugees of conflict from Darfur to Kosovo and Timor Leste (East Timor). In 2009 we raised over $400 000 for victims of the Victorian Bushfires. Our appeal efforts have been generously supported from all Jewish communities around Australia and we hope that should another occasion arise again that you will be ready to offer assistance.
